"During the course of the pandemic, my adolescent daughter became very withdrawn and isolated herself. She expressed little to no pleasure in things she once did. She expressed feelings of self loathing, and admitted to resisting strong urges to cause self harm. My daughter refused to have day to day conversations with even the closest of friends and family members. My husband and I were first responders, and she did express frequent concerns of us passing away. She would only express herself through art, and her art pieces became increasingly morbid. Things did not improve as schools reopened.
With the guidance of my daughter's pediatrician, we sought the help of a Clinical Therapist. My daughter was skeptical, and resistant to seeking help. Jennifer Santinello came highly recommended by multiple professionals in her field. Best of all, she incorporates art to her therapy, which we believed would help our daughter become more receptive to the sessions.

Since they began their sessions in late 2020, My daughter's self confidence, interests, and relationships with family and friends increased exponentially. She became more interested in participating in multiple extracurricular activities and school leadership roles. "My 7-year-old son has been working with Jennifer for 1 year and 4 months to support him with emotional regulation, communicating his feelings & confidence. He was diagnosed with ADHD and ASD when in Kindergarten. As a younger child, we knew that traditional talk therapy would not be ideal for him. Art and creativity have always been an outlet that made him feel calm and happy so we opted to find a licensed creative arts therapist and we are so grateful that we were able to find Jennifer when we did. We know these therapy slots are very limited. When he started with her he was in 1st grade and he is now in 2nd grade.
From the moment I spoke with Jennifer over the phone about my son and what he needed support on she made me feel comfortable and reassured that her work would benefit him. I also appreciated that her background was very diverse and that if needed she would incorporate other therapeutic modalities in her sessions. Once my son met her, after the first session he said he would want to come to see her forever which is a good sign. She also let me know that because he was on the younger side it would take time for him to start to share and open up with her which I was on board with.
Over time Jennifer has been able to support us when our son has had challenging days and weeks while at school and/or at home and has been able to provide support directly to our son as well as to us his parents. With time she's also been able to get him to open up more with her during their private sessions which is a great sign.
I'm positive that as my son continues to grow and mature he'll continue to open up more and benefit from Jenn's support as he reaches other milestones of growth. We look forward to working with Jenn on a long-term basis now as we think our son needs a place where he can go express himself through art but also verbally with someone he feels comfortable with.
